By integrating single-cell, spatial and multi-omic data, Dr Lange’s research aims to map the molecular changes associated with organ maturation during the first years of life. His group will develop computational models that infer shared developmental patterns from data collected across many individuals and use them to distinguish typical child healthy development from disease states. These models also address basic questions about early development: how individual cells commit to their fates, and how these decisions are coordinated across a growing tissue. Ultimately, his research aims to give paediatricians age-specific molecular references and computational tools to support clinical decisions, identify children at risk of developing diseases and determine the best time to treat.
