Dr Ahmed Abd El Wahed

Dr Abd El Wahed received his PhD in biology from Goettingen University, Germany in 2011. He is currently the lab head at the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Veterinary Public Health at Leipzig University. He is a member of the German society for Tropical medicine, travel medicine and Global Health (DTG, e.V.), American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) and one of founder of the network of young researcher in the medical infectious diseases (Netzwerk Junge Infektionsmedizin) and African Society for Paratuberculosis. In 2013, he was awarded the young investigator award from the ASTMH on the establishment of a mobile laboratory for rapid detection of haemorrhagic fever viruses at low resource settings. He established a mobile suitcase laboratory for rapid detection of viruses, bacteria and parasites. The mobile setup was deployed in many African and Asian countries.
