Dr Laura Paone is a medical doctor in the Diabetes & Endocrinology Unit at Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome, Italy. She specializes in thyroid diseases, metabolic diseases, pituitary diseases, adrenal diseases, bone metabolic diseases, andrology and paediatric endocrinology.

Dr Paone’s main focus areas in the field of paediatric endocrinology are auxology, thyroid diseases and metabolic diseases. She follows protocols for thyroid diseases and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents and is proficient in thyroid and neck ultrasonography, including the performance of thyroid fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).

In July 2017, Dr Paone became a research fellow after obtaining a grant to begin a project on GH deficiency in the paediatric age group. In June 2013, she received an award from the Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE), winning first prize for a young investigator under 40 for a clinical project about congenital hypothyroidism titled “A Controlled, Open-Label Phase IV Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Absorption of Levothyroxine Liquid Formulation vs. Levothyroxine Tablets in the Treatment of Newborns with Congenital Hypothyroidism.” She has participated in a clinical project on congenital hypothyroidism, a clinical trial on type 2 diabetes in the paediatric age group and a clinical trial on long-acting GH in the paediatric age group. She is currently involved in a Triac trial in MCT8 deficiency. From July to September 2014, she was a research fellow and did a clinical observation practicum at the Division of Endocrinology at Boston Children’s Hospital in the USA.
