Prof Edgar Delgado-Eckert

BRCCH Researcher
University of Basel

Prof Edgar Delgado-Eckert is an adjunct professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of Basel and a research group leader at the University Children’s Hospital (UKBB). His work is devoted to scientific research and to teaching and mentoring of students and postdoctoral researchers.

His research interests revolve around applications of mathematical modelling, computer simulation, and statistical analysis to biological and biomedical problems. He has used such computational approaches to study fundamental problems in the fields of virology, immunology, and epidemiology, but also worked on questions concerning human (patho-)physiology with potential clinical implications, particularly in the field of respiratory medicine.

Dr Delgado-Eckert began his career at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, where he completed a Masters degree in mathematics with a minor in physics. He then moved to the USA. At Virginia Tech and at Tufts University’s Medical School in Boston he conducted the research work towards his PhD degree. After completion of his PhD studies, he held a position as postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zürich). Afterwards, he was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship from the European Commission.
