Prof Philippe Claude Cattin

Prof Philippe Claude Cattin received his MSc in computer science in 1995 and his PhD in robotics in 2003 from ETH Zurich, where he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Computer Vision Laboratory (CVL) from 2003 to 2007. In 2007, he became an assistant professor at the University of Basel, where he was promoted to associate professor in 2015 and then to full professor in 2019. He is the founding and current Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Basel. In 2017, he was a research fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA.

Prof Cattin’s research interests include medical image analysis, image-guided therapy, robotics-guided laser osteotomy and virtual reality. As a principal investigator, he has completed many projects in these areas and has published over 250 papers, patents and book chapters. He is also the founder of three spin-off companies and has licensed his patents and software to medical device companies.
